A Special Thank You

I’ve heard the quote “teamwork makes the dreamwork” multiple times during sports. Not only does this quote relate to sport, but also to a recent incident that unfortunately ended my stay in Nepal.
On 26th April we were on a group trek to Poon Hill when I broke my leg. A double break to my tibia and fibula left me unable to move and in a fair bit of pain.
Fortunately, I had a great group of friends around me, of which I’m thankful for everything they did. The group of individuals around me came together to give full support. The first aid experience, physical and emotional support allowed me to be in safe company. These individuals, who I’m proud to call my Nepali family, battled against time and stress to work together as a team. A team that communicated well, using their skills and strengths to their advantage and didn’t give up, all to help a friend in need. This resulted in a safe rescue to Pokhara hospital and a successful operation later on in the same day.
I am grateful for the first aid and comfort I received from everyone during the incident, as well as all the visits during my time in Pokhara hospital and support from Projects Abroad’s staff (I’m sorry for all the paperwork I created).
It is important to keep a positive attitude when life gets you down. Im on crutches for a few weeks and out of sport for quite a while. But I prefer to think of the positives. I was lucky to have a great group of friends with me, to be rescued safely and for the operation to go well.
It wasn’t how I dreamt of leaving Nepal, but I believe that everything happens for a reason and I know this isn’t the last time I’ll be visiting Nepal.

To my Nepali friends and family I have made in this beautiful country, I would like to thank you all for the memories, friendships and adventures I shared with you all. I don’t feel like the 18 year old boy who arrived in early September. Although I was sad to leave Nepal, I feel a happier person inside.

‘Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.’
